The future
XI met the creator of VoteReports.org at a tech event in NYC last winter. I'm really impressed with where he has taken his project. Americans can look at their representatives and how they vote based on feedback from different interest groups in the form of a letter grade. It's a great way to see how your Senator or State Rep votes on issues care about.

mauni an epic of epic epicness! I can't wait. I am, however, going to use this line on all prospective suitors: "If we're going to date, you may have to defeat my 7 evil ex-boyfriends." I think a proper response would be a fair test of their true intentions

Wired.com: Self-Service: The Delicate Dance of Online Bragging
X"Social networking tends to create self-reinforcing spirals of reciprocal kindness. You like my cat pictures, so I celebrate your job promotion. The incentives tend to be stacked against negativity, and in some cases implicitly discourage it. In the Facebook world, we can Like or Hide things, but there’s no Dislike button — even when you need one."
"In fact, James Fowler, a political scientist at UC San Diego who studies social networks both online and off, has shown that positive networks built on cooperation and altruism tend to thrive, while negative ones tend to dissolve. “Apparently, evolution favors behaviors that cause us to disconnect from mean people,” he says."

Google Promises To Let Anyone Build Mobile Apps
XA drag and drop app builder for Android. I have yet to see a drag and drop programming implementation work for anyone yet. There have been quite a few (Automator anyone?). Maybe this will fly because the user is building apps for their phone.
I got a kick out of this line: "Google hasn’t truly opened this program up to everyone yet, so it’s still being slightly 'Apple' about the whole thing, despite this promise to democratize app creation."

NY Magazine on why parents hate parenting
XIt's an interesting article. It seems there have been a boat load of studies (a lot of studies... world wide) trying to figure out happiness and how parenting and family contributes to the equation. The article concludes with a claim that there is some magical slight of hand our memories play to make moments we would have said were challenging at the time pleasurable and nostalgic in retrospect. How much control do we have over this I wonder... why not "wave the wand" right there in the moment? Is it possible?

Firefox Update Gives Flash 45 Seconds, Then Pulls the Plug
XFrom the WebMonkey article:
"This feature was popularized by Google Chrome, and it’s now being added into other browsers. It also started becoming a standard feature across browsers just as Flash began feeling the renewed heat over performance issues. Even though Adobe recently released a new version of its Flash Player software specifically to address many of these issues, it remains under scrutiny thanks to Apple’s decision to ban Flash from the iPad, and its campaign to get web developers to build rich apps using web standards instead of Flash."
